week 6 - gantt chart and project planning

Gantt Chart for semester 1 final year project 2014

This gantt chart is all about the plans in order to complete the task from week 1 up to week 14. So, now already week 6 and all the task in previous week already accomplished. For this week ahead all tasks will be based on this chart.

week 5 - flow chart of the project

based on the flow chart, the hybrid system will start to operate once the switch is on. All renewable energy source will be collected and in this case solar, wind and sea waves. when the power is collected it will go to the controller. In this project the controller will detect the highest source of power produced, it could be solar, wind or sea waves based on the current condition. then, the power will be distribute by the controller  from the highest source to the engine.

week 4 - introduction to hybrid energy

ABSTRACT

As we know, soon oil in this world will be depleted. Oil generated almost 60% of electricity in this world and when it depleted it will shut down almost half of world electricity. So, researchers nowadays are studied for renewable source that one day could replace the oil. Renewable energy is solar, wind, biomass, tidal, waves and so much more.

HYBRID ENERGY
Hybrid energy is the combination of two or more forms of renewable energy to generate electricity. Hybrid system can significantly reduce overall energy use and environmental impacts, increase the efficiency and reliability of energy production and reduce the cost of providing for the end uses. hybrid system can create markets for renewable energy sources that might not otherwise exist. the limitations of renewable source are reduced with back-up sources and energy storage provided in hybrid system.

PROJECT CONCEPT
For this study, theoretically the renewable energy usually produce small amount of electricity and that make them less efficient. By combine three of them could produce higher amount of electricity and the suitable scenario in this case is tanker ship. First, it is because tanker ship has large surface area which is possible to place a lot of solar panel. Second, at the lower part of the ship we could place mechanical flap against sea waves.  Last but not least, wind turbine can be placed as third resource of generation on electricity and this is because the winds are hard to predict. By combine the sources it could generate the engine and if it succeeds it will change a direction of usage of renewable energy.

In this case, I will create a prototype of ship and apply solar panel at the top of it to generate the source. At the bottom I will place a generator motor and when the ship is moving, the sea waves will make the motor rotate and generate electricity. Finally, the wind turbine can be placed on top of the ship and when the ship is move the wind will hit the turbine and make it rotate to generate electricity. All of this electricity will be store and use it to generate the engine.
